Recreation

The Gateway Area abounds with recreational activities and facilities. All of the urban centers have arenas, curling rinks, sports fields and community centers. There are also four golf courses inside the area with several others in close proximity.

There are three regional parks with lakes for swimming and fishing. Moosomin has a swimming pool and tennis courts. The Pipestone Valley and surrounding area provides excellent hunting grounds, both for deer and for various game birds. There is an active archery club in the area, as well as a Fish and Game Association.

Summer Activities

Recreation plays a major role in the Gateway region's lifestyle. The region is always busy in the summer with activities such as golf, fastball, hardball, swimming, tennis, hiking, biking, and camping. There are two nine-hole golf courses in the region near the towns of Moosomin and Wapella, and there are other courses in close proximity. There are also two regional parks, Moosomin & District Regional Park and Welwyn Regional Park, with lakes utilized for swimming, fishing, and boating. Moosomin & District Regional Park has recently developed a 7.2 kilometre (4.5 miles) hiking and biking trail to journey.

Golf is an pleasurable pass time in the Gateway REDA region.

Moosomin's renovated Kinsmen Swimming Pool and Waterslide is a hot commodity during the summer months. In conjunction with the pool, you will find Southeast Saskatchewan's very first children's water park, entitled "Little Tots Rain Forest". The project involves a zero depth-play area that features various water spray toys.

The Pipestone Valley and Qu'Appelle Valley provide excellent scenic views for wildlife, and may present a great eco-tourism opportunity.

The Gateway REDA region is a prosperous and progressive area, enjoying the amenities of a city in a country-style environment. The area offers every service that tourists need, and our summer activities are affordable to everyone.

Winter Activities

Winter is busy with activities such as curling, hockey, snowmobile riding, ice-skating, hunting, tobogganing, and cross-country skiing. Communities in the Gateway region boasts a hockey arena, curling rink, and sports fields. Gateway communities host various tournaments and bonspiels each year. There is also a local snowmobile club and nearby trails, Tri-Valley Trails.

Hockey and curling are but two of the many winter activities available to partake in.
