The current hospital, located in Moosomin |
The only hospital in the area is located in the town of Moosomin. The present facility (above) has twenty-seven beds and
five doctors with admitting privileges. The present nursing staff consists of thirty-four nurses. The hospital has modern facilities
including an operating room, a cancer treatment service, and full laboratory services including a blood bank, ultrasound clinic,
and a 24-hour emergency/trauma unit.
The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region had called for bids to construct an 85 bed integrated health care facility at
Moosomin. The new facility will have 27 acute care beds and 58 long-term care beds. It will continue to provide all the services
offered by the current hospital.
The new building will have an interior area of 8,710 metres - almost 100,000 square feet - and will combine three
facilities into one. The three facilities being replaced are Moosomin Union Hospital, Eastern Saskatchewan Pioneer Lodge and Eastern Saskatchewan Pioneer Home.
Community Health Services that are currently delivered at separate locations will also move in the Moosomin and District Integrated
Health Care facility, bringing the majority of the community's health care services under one roof. Operation in the new facilities is expected to begin September 2008.
