Mining & ResourcesPotashPCS RocanvilleLocated 10 miles (16 kilometres) northeast of Rocanville, the mine (above) began operation in 1970. PCS purchased the mine from Sylvite of Canada in 1977. It is a conventional underground potash mine, operating at a depth of 960 meters(3,150 ft). The annual capacity is 3.044 million tonnes potassium chloride. This mine is rated as the most economical one for production of potash in Canada. The PCS mine operates 24 hours a day and has 340 full-time employees. Production: Total annual production for 2004 was 1.83 million tonnes. Future production will fluctuate with agricultural needs in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Mosaic Esterhazy Potash - K2Located 10 miles (16 kilometres) east of Esterhazy on Highway 22, the mine began operation in May of 1967. The K2 mine operates 24 hours a day. K2's sister mine K1 is located 6 miles west of K2 and is totally interconnected with the K2 mine. There is a total of 875 employees at the mines in Esterhazy. The depth of the potash at K2 is 3,157 feet and the temperature underground is between 21 and 24 °C. Its capacity is 2.2 million tonnes.
OilTwo oil pools are located in the Gateway REDA region: one is at Red Jacket and the second at Wapella, with exploration for further pools on an ongoing basis. A number of local persons are employed directly by the oil companies, while several small trucking concerns deal with hauling oil and salt water from the wells. There are also numerous oilfield service and equipment sales companies in the area.

Natural GasThe Trans-Canada Pipeline Pumping Station is located 11 miles (18 kilometres) north east of Moosomin, just 1 1/4 miles (2 kilometres) west of the Manitoba border. The physical set up of the pumping station is made up of four plant buildings, two control buildings and one auxiliary building. There are three full time employees at the station. Improvements made locally include 19 miles (30 kilometres) of 48-inch pipeline laid in 1989, and another 17 miles (27.6 kilometres) of the same size line were laid in 1990.
