R.M. of Martin No. 122History of the R.M. of MartinThe municipality was incorporated in 1913 and had an office in the Town of Wapella at that time. The municipality is governed by a Reeve and six Councillors. In 1976, the R.M. entered into an agreement for joint administration with the R.M. of Moosomin No. 121 and the office in Wapella was changed to a part-time office. In January 1998 the Wapella office was closed and all the administration is now run out of the joint office in Moosomin.

Economic InformationThe R.M. of Martin's population, as of the 2001 census, was 370 with a taxable assessment of $42.1 million. The steadily growing oil industry has added a great deal of stability to the local economy. There are several oil batteries with a network of underground flow lines, as well as a truck depot that serves a large area for access to oil transportation pipelines. There are several oil and gas transmission lines running through the municipality. Private trucking and oil companies to service the oil industry are also located within the municipality. Pipestone Community Pasture serves a large community for seasonal pasture. Livestock production is a large part of the agricultural industry for the area as well as grain production, specialty crops and a couple of elk farms. In 2004, the municipality provided an application to Sask Power to provide wind power under their green project and currently has a wind-monitoring tower located just North west of Red Jacket. AttractionsThe scenic Pipestone Valley wanders through the south end of the municipality and at the very southeast corner runs into Moosomin Lake. Moosomin & District Regional Park located just upstream from Moosomin dam offers fishing, boating and water sports as well as plenty of camping spots, a park store and privately owned cabins. Bri-Ma-Del camp offers an interdenominational facility located at Red Jacket and has a summer camp each year. Most of the old school districts in the municipality are marked by commemorative plaques throughout the municipality.
